What is Physical Culture?
Physical Culture (“Physi” or “Physie” as it is commonly known) is a unique competitive sport combining dance, floor and standing exercises for girls and ladies aged from 3 years up.
Based on basic ballet and modern dance, Physi is great for physical fitness, flexibility, coordination and posture, and builds confidence through participation in competitive events.
Have fun, make friends and keep fit!
Improve your strength, flexibility, coordination and confidence in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
Physi Routines and performance
Physi routines are very structured. They are taught from detailed notes that are given to physi teachers state-wide at the start of each year. Girls from 5years and above will learn and be judged on 8 routines plus marching.
In the Preschool class I will slowly introduce them to the basic physi positions whilst having fun.
For those older preschool girls that would like to try the 5/6 years work, they are more than welcome to stay on for the next class and give it a try if they can keep up and be able to concentrate for the lesson.
Girls all over the state of similar ages are taught the same routines and compete against each other at the end of the year.
The 5/6/7/8 years learn the same work, with the 7/8 years having extensions added.
The 9/10/11 and 12 year girls learn the same work with the older 11/12 girls having their work extended also.
The girls will be judged against their age as at 1st September each year.
Judges are looking for precision of positions, perfect lines made with the body, and the ability to control balances.
Each routine offers something different, focusing on different styles; one is ballet based, one is jazz based etc.
Girls and Ladies have the option to compete individually in local club competitions, interclub competitions between 5-6 clubs and state-wide zone competitions.
Girls and ladies may be asked to participate in a team competition consisting of 6 team members. Teams are judged on synchronicity- think synchronised swimming on land!
